Cool weather and fast racing. That was the recipe for Saturday’s Battle of Atlanta Cross Country Meet.
The Varsity boys took off first, so let’s dive right into their race. Beau Milam looked strong and was first out of the Mt. Bethel pack across the finish line. In stride behind Beau’s 18:32 time was Ethan Parker crossing the finish line at 19:55. Ben Williford (20:06), Sterling Bjerken (21:25), and Bradley Buck (22:03) brought it home, down the grueling 400 meter straightaway towards the finish.
For the ladies, Briley Holder and Gracie Grogan took an early lead. The two of them pushed each other across the finish line. They raced side-by-side for just over 1,000 meters. Holder came in at 26:00 and closely behind was Grogan at 26:13. Sophia Ostervold (28:06) and Amanda Lako (28:25) were next across the finish line for the eagles. Lako dropped 3 minutes from her existing PR to crush this race. Nina Petiot and Abbie McCrorie came across the finish line side-by-side to round up the lady eagles with a time of 30:22.
Next up were the JV Boys. We ran 9 strong runners and first across the finish line was Ajay John with a time of 22:12. Ethan Spell (22:27), Liam Doyle (22:39), and Hunter McCown (22:56) were right on John’s heels coming across the finish line. Liam Doyle started this season off with a great PR and we have high hopes for the upcoming races. The next eagles across the finish line was a pack who worked together the whole race. Grant van den Berg (26:11), Cameron Slavin (26:31), Quentin Jackson (26:34), Gabriel Gomes (27:04), and Samuel Alarcon (28:23).
Overall this was a great first meet for the Eagles Cross Country team. Five runners raced their first cross country meet ever and it was great to celebrate them. This is just the beginning of the 2018 season and we cannot wait to see what will happen. Stay tuned to find out.
