Matthew C. and Harrison brought their A games today, playing as well as they have all season. Harrison wasted no time, defeating his opponent in eight straight games. Matthew C. took a bit longer in his 8-2 match, impressing the spectators with his aggressive cross court shots and enjoying his last regular season match of middle school.
Grant also played one of his best matches of the season, swapping leads with his Mt. Paran opponent, but coming up just a bit short of victory. Will and Henry, like most players today, battled the cold wind. Serves that should have gone over the net, didn’t, and cross court shots that should have been in, went either long or wide. Still, they kept their spirits up and worked well together as a team. It was a very close match, but they also came up a little short.
For the boys, it all came down to the line two doubles match. Just like a major league baseball team saves its best closing pitcher for just the right moment, Mt. Bethel saved the Tripp and Nate doubles team to bring home the win. And bring it home they did. With night falling and parents freezing, they threw nothing but strikes for an 8-1 win and a 3-2 boys team victory for Mt. Bethel.
